Getting here

There are different choices to get to Hvar Island and StariGrad, the village where Villa Mjesto is located.

Arriving by air:
The most direct and easy route is to fly to Split and get the ferry from there direct to Stari Grad. These large ferries take cars and foot passengers, and run from Split to Stari Grad, mooring just outside the town, three or four times a day. The journey lasts approx one hour and 40 minutes, it’s very easy. There are five sailings a day depending on the season.

Already in Croatia:
If you are already driving or travelling in Croatia, ferries can be taken from Split, Rijeka (Fiume) Zadar or Dubrovnik to the island of Hvar. You can bring your car or simply come by foot on the ferry.

The booth to buy your ticket is where the ferry leaves from. Across the road there is a “gadaroba” where you can store your bags if you have bought a ticket and want to wander around Split while you wait for the sailing. Or you can book your ticket online at www.jadrolinija.hr

Another option is to drive up the coast from Dubrovnik. It takes approximately 2.5 hours by car to Drvenik located at the southern end of Hvar Island. Here you can cross on a ferry to Sucuraj (see timetable on www.jadrolinija.hr ) and then you can drive one adventurous but very scenic hour up the Island to StariGrad.

From Italy:
If you are driving or travelling from Italy, you can leave daily with an overnight ferry service from the ports of Ancona, Pescara and Bari to Split or Starigrad, on the island of Hvar.
During the summer, some Italian hydrofoil lines offer a direct service from Pescara and Ancona to Hvar Island, port of Starigrad.

Please note no tickets for local transportation can be booked in advance.

It is not necessary to have a car to enjoy your holiday, but you can hire one either at the airport or in Stari Grad (Hvar Touristik will organise it for you). Hvar Touristik have a minibus and can take you on excursion to parts of the Island where there are no bus services.

Arrive on Hvar island by sea plane:
There are now summer flights from the sea port of Resnik near Split Airport to the vvillage of Jelsa near Stari Grad. Prices vary according to the time of year, and there will be as many as five flights a day to and from the airport in peak season.
